PROJECT: N.W. 87TH AVENUE INTERCHANGE RECONSTRUCTION
SCOPE OF WORK
The SR-836 / N.W. 87th Avenue interchange reconstruction was the final piece necessary to complete the Section 5 Master Plan. A&P Engineers was responsible for all design project management and coordination efforts. We developed the roadway geometry and final plans, led the structures concept and final design for 4 bridges, drainage, ITS, lighting, utility coordination and miscellaneous structures. Project also had signalization, signing and pavement markings, and maintenance oftraffic plans. When construction is completed, the project will provide system to connectivity between the western portion of SR-836 to SR-826 and provide the ultimate capacity improvements along the SR-836 mainline. In addition, the project will provide significant traffic operations and safety improvements for the interchange and the surrounding arterial network. One of the main goals was to improve the access from the arterial network onto the expressway and thus relieving the arterial grid,in particular, the intersection of N.W. 87th Avenue an N.W. 12th Street. The project also consisted of the connection to the Kitty Roedel Bike Path with a new 3500 linear feet shared used path to the east from west on NW 87 Avenue to NW 82 Avenue. We also accommodated new bicycle lanes on NW 87 Avenue from NW 12 Street thru the end of our project on the south.

PROJECT: OKEECHOBEE RD RECONSTRUCTION FROM EAST OF NW 107TH AVE TO EAST OF NW 116 WAY
SCOPE OF WORK
This project is primarily a safety and operations project along SR 25/Okeechobee Road to alleviate major traffic issues on the frontage road and service roads approaching Okeechobee Road and 121 Way and 116 Way/ Hialeah Gardens Boulevard. This project includes the major reconstruction of SR 25 to provide grade separation at the intersection of NW 116th Way. Project includes 9 new signalized intersections, conventional lighting, signing and pavement marking including miscellaneous structures, installation of a new ITS backbone, major tree relocation, and 6 new bridges. The pavement of Okeechobee Rd is being replaced with Rigid Pavement due to the high truck traffic. Realigning and widening of the frontage road, as well as widening of NW South River Drive and NB NW 116th Way were required to meet traffic demands at this intersections for the 2045 design year. Pedestrian/Bicycle facilities are being improved, including an undesignated bicycle lane along Okeechobee Road, designated Bicycle lanes on the Frontage Road, and continuous sidewalk along the North side of the Frontage Road. In addition, pedestrian connectivity is being provided along Hialeah Gardens Boulevard from NW South River Drive to the Frontage Road. Project also includes the replacement of a 96” culvert with a new 102” culvert. The Utility aspect of this project is very complex, including relocations of canal crossings, impacts due to bridge widening, vertical clearance issues with grade separation and overhead electrical lines, and the relocation Sewerpump station. Right of way coordination on this project is also notable, as over 20 parcels need to be acquired, and off-system agreements with municipalities and the county are required due to work within their Rights-of-way, and within property owned by the Miami-Dade County School Board.
